2021.10.27 00:15 MarquitoMarquez How common is Rabies cases in your country?
Rabies. It's exceptionally common, but people just don't run into the animals that carry it often. Skunks especially, and bats.
Let me paint you a picture.
You go camping, and at midday you decide to take a nap in a nice little hammock. While sleeping, a tiny brown bat, in the "rage" stages of infection is fidgeting in broad daylight, uncomfortable, and thirsty (due to the hydrophobia) and you snort, startling him. He goes into attack mode.
Except you're asleep, and he's a little brown bat, so weighs around 6 grams. You don't even feel him land on your bare knee, and he starts to bite. His teeth are tiny. Hardly enough to even break the skin, but he does manage to give you the equivalent of a tiny scrape that goes completely unnoticed.
Rabies does not travel in your blood. In fact, a blood test won't even tell you if you've got it. (Antibody tests may be done, but are useless if you've ever been vaccinated.)
You wake up, none the wiser. If you notice anything at the bite site at all, you assume you just lightly scraped it on something.
The bomb has been lit, and your nervous system is the wick. The rabies will multiply along your nervous system, doing virtually no damage, and completely undetectable. You literally have NO symptoms.
It may be four days, it may be a year, but the camping trip is most likely long forgotten. Then one day your back starts to ache... Or maybe you get a slight headache?
At this point, you're already dead. There is no cure.
(The sole caveat to this is the Milwaukee Protocol, which leaves most patients dead anyway, and the survivors mentally disabled, and is seldom done).
There's no treatment. It has a 100% kill rate.
Absorb that. Not a single other virus on the planet has a 100% kill rate. Only rabies. And once you're symptomatic, it's over. You're dead.
So what does that look like?
Your headache turns into a fever, and a general feeling of being unwell. You're fidgety. Uncomfortable. And scared. As the virus that has taken its time getting into your brain finds a vast network of nerve endings, it begins to rapidly reproduce, starting at the base of your brain... Where your "pons" is located. This is the part of the brain that controls communication between the rest of the brain and body, as well as sleep cycles.
Next you become anxious. You still think you have only a mild fever, but suddenly you find yourself becoming scared, even horrified, and it doesn't occur to you that you don't know why. This is because the rabies is chewing up your amygdala.
As your cerebellum becomes hot with the virus, you begin to lose muscle coordination, and balance. You think maybe it's a good idea to go to the doctor now, but assuming a doctor is smart enough to even run the tests necessary in the few days you have left on the planet, odds are they'll only be able to tell your loved ones what you died of later.
You're twitchy, shaking, and scared. You have the normal fear of not knowing what's going on, but with the virus really fucking the amygdala this is amplified a hundred fold. It's around this time the hydrophobia starts.
You're horribly thirsty, you just want water. But you can't drink. Every time you do, your throat clamps shut and you vomit. This has become a legitimate, active fear of water. You're thirsty, but looking at a glass of water begins to make you gag, and shy back in fear. The contradiction is hard for your hot brain to see at this point. By now, the doctors will have to put you on IVs to keep you hydrated, but even that's futile. You were dead the second you had a headache.
You begin hearing things, or not hearing at all as your thalamus goes. You taste sounds, you see smells, everything starts feeling like the most horrifying acid trip anyone has ever been on. With your hippocampus long under attack, you're having trouble remembering things, especially family.
You're alone, hallucinating, thirsty, confused, and absolutely, undeniably terrified. Everything scares the literal shit out of you at this point. These strange people in lab coats. These strange people standing around your bed crying, who keep trying to get you "drink something" and crying. And it's only been about a week since that little headache that you've completely forgotten. Time means nothing to you anymore. Funny enough, you now know how the bat felt when he bit you.
Eventually, you slip into the "dumb rabies" phase. Your brain has started the process of shutting down. Too much of it has been turned to liquid virus. Your face droops. You drool. You're all but unaware of what's around you. A sudden noise or light might startle you, but for the most part, it's all you can do to just stare at the ground. You haven't really slept for about 72 hours.
Then you die. Always, you die.
And there's not one... fucking... thing... anyone can do for you.
Then there's the question of what to do with your corpse. I mean, sure, burying it is the right thing to do. But the fucking virus can survive in a corpse for years. You could kill every rabid animal on the planet today, and if two years from now, some moist, preserved, rotten hunk of used-to-be brain gets eaten by an animal, it starts all over.
So yeah, rabies scares the shit out of me. And it's fucking EVERYWHERE. (Source: Spent a lot of time working with rabies. Would still get my vaccinations if I could afford them.)

2021.10.27 00:15 FriedBakedFish How to play Guilty Gear Vastedge XT?
I've seen mention of an android version, but I can't find the APK anywhere online. I've imported Japanese games in the past, but I draw the line at Pachislot machines.
And yes, I know that I'm putting in extra effort to watch cutscenes on a glorified gambling machine in a language I can't read, I just want to know what it's like.

2021.10.27 00:14 thelastquesadilla 2021 Swap Completed (Kansas)
TL;DR Swapped a 4 month old 2021Bolt for a 2022 Equinox. Whole process took 10 weeks.
I really liked the car, especially the size. The recall doesn't really bother me, and I know the risk of fire is low. What ultimately made me decide to presume a buyback was the parking and charging restrictions. I live in a large apartment building with assigned parking spaces in a multi-story parking structure. I paid extra each month for a parking sport with an EVSE. There was just no way I could follow the safety guidelines in my current living situation.
With winter coming up, not being able to plug in and charge overnight just wasn't going to work out for me in the midwest. I also wasn't going to be able to visit family for the holidays, 60% of the battery is just not enough to go on a roadtrip in the winter.
With the current car market, I knew finding a different car would be hard, so I specially asked for a swap. Like I had seen a few here do, I used the crazy incentives that GM had placed on the Bolt to roll some negative equity from the previous car up. I didn't mind at the time as I had planned to keep the Bolt a long time, and given how cheap EVs are to operate, I thought this was a good idea. Because of this, I wasn't enthusiastic about a straight buyback, but I knew I had to get out of the Bolt as it was unusable for me.
The car ended up parked at the dealership about 1/3 of the way through this process where it sat the entire time. I'm not sure if this helped my case, but it is note worthy.
I started my buyback by asking the dealership where I bought the car if they would be willing to host the buy back and they said they would. The dealership had actually hosted a few early Bolt buybacks, so they were familiar with the process. They told me I would have to start the process with GM by calling EV concierge.

2021.10.27 00:14 PristinePhone4612 A solution to the power-creep
It is difficult to nerf/rework/rebalance a unit because of selector demands and if we don't do it then it inevitably leads to unending power-creep which makes a mockery of the ever-growing number and diversity of heroes. So many heroes that can be pulled but for any desired role, a few of them outclass the rest, barring few "specialized" exceptions.
What if we could sell existing 5* units for, say, half the covenant coins required to buy a unit in covenant shop?
This can also open up the option for nerfing/reworking/rebalancing a unit, since if a meta unit gets nerfed to give way to a new meta without power-creep, we can always sell it and get a more usable unit in the ongoing meta or a useful imprint from the covenant shop
Rebalancing/reworking will make possible better use of the large number of 5* and enhancing diversity of gameplay without having to introduce units which
For f2p like me, we can give 5 or 10 covenant coins as rewards in events so that we too have a chance :P

2021.10.27 00:14 AssassinMentorX What's so immersive about this game?
I played well over 80 hours of this game and not once have I felt immersive except for when I was doing alchemy... When you're actually following along with the story Henry's skills don't make a lot of sense like let's take for instance in the prologue he's been practicing sword fighting but yet he has zero sword fighting skill, he's also been said to have been in brawl's before but yet has zero inside unarmed combat, he's also apparently a heavy drinker but yet has zero skill In drinking..
He's also not a peasant he's at least middle class inside the medieval age I mean his "father's" blacksmith station was the only house next to the castle which I found odd even when I first started on top of this his father being a master blacksmith..
Horse riding feels awkward and the horses just don't make a lot of sense they're supposed to be a variety but they're all the same at the same time I only know this because my wife is really into horses and grew up around them.
The way the characters clothing gets dirty in the matter of real life minutes versus a couple in-game hours is kind of weird.
When the character gets drunk the screen starts going side to side which is odd if you've ever been drunk in your life it's not actually like that unless you're absolutely plastered then I can see you starting to kind of fall over and maybe that's what they were going for but it's still weird.
The combat feels like it was designed for 1v1 versus 1v x, the battle system feels even worse with the auto lock on.
I find it odd that you have to eat but you don't actually have to drink any water after you eat which also breaks immersion..
The alchemy feels fully immersive I love that, and the fact that you actually have to go to a bathhouse to wash your clothes and get a bath or else civilians or guards or whoever you talk to will say that you stink or have some type of reaction is a nice change of pace, the bow shooting is kind of immersive but kind of weird cuz I shot a 75 lb bow and I did not sway as much as he does with that bow and there's no way with a short bow that he would have that much of an issue and mine did not have a site on the bow..
Fully armored enemies running as fast as the track star just blows my mind I find that irritating and weird especially if you include plate armor I once had an instance where a fully armored bandit caught up to me at full speed on pebbles...
It is cool that guards react to you not having a torch at night but when you're in full sneak and have almost level 20 sneak and people are noticing you I find that pretty odd especially if you don't have armor on.

2021.10.27 00:14 dancinqqq What are your ladies’ opinions on finances when moving in with a boyfriend/fiancé/husband?
So I’m 21, and my boyfriend is 20. He is currently on break from school and has a good job making around 65k, so he has been saving alot of money to buy a house for us! He is also learning on investments and stocks so that we have a good and solid future. He knows that I wouldn’t move in with him unless i am at least engaged to with a set date of the wedding(so around 2-3 years when I’m out of school where he can save in the mean time). Im currently in college to become a high school teacher. The salary for a teacher where i live is around 47k..
While i am still vetting him(so far so good , a year in), i feel like this question is inevitable and i would like to hear your guy’s thoughts on finances with mortgages. Should the man pay the entirety of it? Or does that only apply to men who have a much larger salary?
Im very “the man pays for everything”, but when it comes to income and mortgages i have no idea how to feel. He would be putting down the majority(if not all) of the downpayment for the house, since i am in school and i don’t make alot at the moment. I just want to ask because he actively speaks of the future and i would like to form my solid opinion on finances to see if we are compatible in that way.
Thank you in advance for the help!

2021.10.27 00:14 goatboat_ Research advisor ghosted me, what do I do?
I conducted two independent research projects as an undergraduate. The first professor is the reason why I chose to pursue graduate education in my field.
In my senior year (at the start of the pandemic) he was unreliable and going through a lot personally, I asked him if he was able to provide a letter of recommendation and he said yes, but didn’t come through. All my applications were incomplete. While I cannot point to this as the main reason I was denied from all programs, I certainly believe it was a factor.
I’ve asked him again if he’s willing to provide me one just hoping for the best but I see that he has read my message (we’re friends on Facebook, he was supposed to connect me to friends of his in research, but didn’t and still has not lol) and had not replied. Should I just move on and leave him alone?
I’m reluctant because any other recommendation I might receive may not be as strong considering they would be from coursework instructors and not research advisors/PI’s.
Im really worried here, any advice is helpful. Thanks
